2What school of thought do you subscribe to? Stoicism, Eastern Philosophy, Existentialism, Western Christian Theology, or just some various mix of everything on different days of the week?

Radical skepticism does it for me. Sextus Empiricus, Pyrrho, Montaigne, Hume, in some ways Socrates, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein.

I know it's not what Hume is normally known for, but I really enjoyed his An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals (1751). He talks about how feeling (rather than knowing) is what governs ethical actions, because "moral decisions are grounded in moral sentiment." I also agree with Hume's Law, which denies the possibility of logically deriving what 'ought to be' from 'what is'.

Yes! I love those parts of Hume as well! He's often said to be an empiricist, but I personally disagree, I see in him more of a skeptic.

Just curious, what do you take from Buddhism? I'm slowly working my way through all the major religions, but all I really know about Buddhism is the story of the Buddha, the idea of enlightenment, the creation of the caste system, and reincarnation.

5Buddhism for me is a force to get to know my self better, do the inner work, keep checking on myself, try to not thinking too much and just do practically (and be conscious of every little thing), put my self there in whatever stuff I am facing. It teaches me to be a realistic person. It resonates with Stoicism I think. and I don't focus on learning about death after life, or nirvana, we do what we do in this world without thinking the outcome in hereafter. in Buddhism, Dhamma inspires me to do things but I am not a Buddhist myself. Good luck for your self discovery journey 💚

2Oh nice, I like these two. Well you do have Nihilism and Pessimism, which arent necessarily a knock off of those two haha, but I know what you mean, as in they're the only real ones is what you're saying?

1I seek Truth. I believe there is truth embedded in all these disciplines, and that every seeker must find their own way. This is not to say these various philosophies are equal or the same, only that none of them are completely false, and each is an adaptation of parts of the truth to a specific time and culture. I know that sounds wishy-washy, but a truly independent thinker will build his own model of the world, by recognizing similarities and consistencies between schools of thought without falling into and getting stuck in any single paradigm.

2Well said, well put! What you said does echo some of what Schaupenhauer said in the past as well as even Nietzche regarding finding your own way. While I do agree with finding your own way, since the value is in your discovery, I also see some truth to the fact that there's pre-existing thought we are influenced by whether we know it or not, so the value of studying deep into philosophy is being able to analyze those thoughts that have echoed across time and really getting to a point in thought that beckons genuinely original and new thought. But, we'd likely spend our whole lives studying the written works before getting to that point haha. Fun stuff though.

2So when we get to that point though of being an independent thinker, that is an interesting idea to pursue, whether it's possible to be completely independent in thought?

Liberalism: political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise. Atheism: Doesn't believe in a god New Industrialism - we need to build more things (less financial economy, more research, development, industry, services, technology, products, etc.) New Brandeis proponent - We much fix the health of free markets by addressing monopolies and monopsonies.

6I dunno if it fits into a religion or whatever but I think every atom and relationship between it and every other atom in the universe, in every conceivable and unconceivable way, from the beginning to the end of and even time itself, every object, and every thought or action ever had or done, by anything or everyone ever, good or evil, forever, is all one and the same thing: God. I dont think we die, we just change into some other arrangement of matter. Our consiousness exists outside the constraints of the universe and is itself the universe, so when we are born, we experience what being alone is because our brains and bodies serve as temporary sensory deprivation chambers and we are walled off from the continuum of the universal mind until these bodies die, then we go back to what we truly are. In this context, you will live every life that ever has or will ever live, so if you hurt someone, you are hurting yourself, because you also will experience their life.

Everyday, everytime, all I see are the same faces. All posts are different ideas from the same people, or similar ideas from different people. Swiping numbed me that every swipe is nothing more than a checklist of things to mark on the profile to decide if it's right or left. Am I crazy? Am I the only one who feels this?

Be grateful for the challenges that you must overcome because it keeps you sharp, without resistance there wouldn't be strength.
