1I say evolving because i can see the transitioning happen, i can track how the genres bleed over. my big two used to be rap and EDM. rap transitioned to hip hop, which has now transitioned into drill. the characteristic punchy drum patterns and sliding bass that sings to you at times, coupled with haunting melodies and destructive lyrics. Its no wonder i produce almost exclusively drill beats and instrumentals now. With edm, it went from all this techno, dance/club music, to this darker synthwave/cyberpunk type music. the type of grimy electronic stuff that makes u wanna drive in the middle of neon jungles in dirty futuristic city streets with your sunglasses on. I hope one day soon i can pull off a genre-bending composition of the two.

Jazz structure will really help any composition in my opinion.

It's either that or classic.... or a jazz classic. Theyre are almost the fundamentals for provoking emotion.

1but i feel emotion listening to darksynth and i do not see a connection to that with jazz or classic 😭😭 i think thats a generalization! but i do love me some good ol choir and orchestral sounds

I'm all about genre bending! This is my latest track but its a little more focused on becoming a summer hit. This is like an alt indie hip hop with trap drums Listen to Smoove by Willy Lowell on #SoundCloud https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/wz8zZ

1yeah i can definitely see that as a blend of genres! but it felt cohesive, like it felt like it all matched together so thats good! it was an interesting sound and LOUD loll, my taste is a little different and i dont really rap or sing anything i just make beats/instrumentals check these two drill beats out! Hell ya man I want people to HEAR ME. Nah I'm going to fix it when I put it on an album. Both of the links sent me to Irradiation for some reason. I can't hear the bass very well because I'm just using my phone speaker. I prefer the complexity and rhythms of Ghost of Sparta. The drums are a little overwhelming on Irradiation, but maybe it's more of a rappers drill beat compared to the other. Love the effects on both songs though, must've taken some time. I like that it's progressive too and not as monotonous as one might think. You use samples and sounds to create the melody rather than an instrument which is creative much like a modern John Cage style.

1i think i know what you mean by irradiation, theres actually a layer in there i added virtually zero variation to, its the countersnare/clap 😭 also fun fact, in ghost of sparta, i actually used a choir simulating vst with a word builder! i had them chant a latin chan "igne natura renovatur integra" meaning through fire nature is renewed

1more specifically in ghost of sparta i didnt use a single sample, all melodies are created from scratch using vsts, including the flute but the dialogue is from god of war the first one on ps2

Nice that's a classic. Ok ya I notice but sometimes it seems like you'd add a sample of a sound. To carry the melody. Something almost unrelated entirely. More thought provoking rather than emotional response. Which can be thrilling. The star wars trap was hard I've always wanted to hear John Williams as if he was a trap artist.

1yesss i did that with another vocal simulator! but id just play one note with a "melisma" articulation so it would run over a couple notes by me only pressing one, and then the delay/reverb id add etc etc and yooo you heard that eh?? my first trash beat i ever made i sampled the same john williams droid invasion song and it was soo poorly looped, so this was like a tribute to my roots. i really appreciate you giving that a listen too! i was actually debating sharing one last thing. i made this one using entirely samples, that i flipped/cut/pitch shifted etc etc, except for the bass, i used sublab by future audio. its my attempt at something cinematic, orchestral, thought provoking, emotion evoking, followed by what makes me, me. a beat. its a little long i understand if you dont get around to it, but anyone reads this comment and wants to check it out anyways, ill drop it. You want to mix drill and mid-tempo? Maybe have a mid-tempo track and have a drill beat as a switch-up. Like how they do trap drops in bass house.

1i know what youre sayingg but thats not what im visualizing! i mean a darksynth electronic type melody with characteristic drill percussion patterns and sounds, and a bassline/sub wave that somehow reminds you of both

I see, maybe you should try to remix songs of one genre to the other

1i typed and backspaced a couple responses until it clicked.... you mean like sample a song directly from one genre and alter it to the other one??? if yes, then thats.. something i actually never thought about til now 😭 ive been approaching it by trying to make it my own sound but i think to start or to practice i could definitelyy do that! (i stopped officially releasing things containing stuff for which i dont have the license/rights)

Yeah man, a bootleg remix for practicing. If it turns out good, you can even try to get rid of the original samples and see if it can stand alone as a song.
