Could you forgive someone who violently took a Family's member life?

This is a part of my story... My momma was asked to raise her sister's child. She did... He spent his first birthday with us. First haircut. Holidays. When he was three, my aunt (his bio mother) ended his life with shocking violence. I have forgiven her to the best of my ability. I do not want her to go to hell. Is that enough? I have never spoken to her. My grandma (her mother) keeps in touch with her and goes to see her once or twice a year. My grandma told me, not too many years after this happened, that my aunt wanted to know if she could write me a letter. I said yes, but I made no promises to write back. She sent me a mother's day card. I did not write back. I don't hate her, and that's as close as I have been able to come to forgiveness.

I'm sorry to hear that. People who murder children are the absolute lowest form.of life, lower than an insect. And his biological mother too. I wouldn't talk to her again either so I don't blame you. Rip to the little fella.

She shot him with a 12-gauge. She received a life sentence, which in Texas is only 40 years. She also received 10 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Depends if that family member was, for example, a rapist, murderer, pedophile, etc. If that someone was a victim or loved one of a victim, then it's justified. Otherwise, if that family member was someone loved and wasn't any of the above, then it's an absolute no.

By thinking of the good memories I've had with that person and letting the pain that it caused me push me to bigger aspirations. Holding hatred toward someone is never a good thing.

I don't think I could.. forgiveness is hard to feel for someone who does something so cruel. Could I find peace with it? Yes. Could I ever forgive them? No, because to forgive them that means I'd have to see things from their point of view.. and I don't think I could ever justify something like taking someone's life violently and without ample reason.

That's tough. That's very tough. Because as much as I forgive the stupid things people do, I actually lost a cousin and her daughter to violence and now her boyfriend is serving 2 life sentences plus, so I can't say yes and I can't say no cause either way you have every right to feel the way you do. I just hope someday that the hatred can be removed from the heart.

No chance. I'd also want revenge but wouldn't ruin my own life for a scummy murderer. I always say I'm against capital punishment. But if I was a family member in that position I think I'd want them out down. You can't know your own views for certain til you're in that horrendous position.
