Do compliments always have to be about appearance?

Now don't get me wrong. It's super nice to be told you're beautiful or hot or whatever, but I'd love to hear some say that I make things easier, that they're happy I exist, they don't know what they'd do with out me, I'm strong, that they hope we never lose each other, that they're proud of me, that I have something to offer. These are the ones that really hit you. All these just mean so much more.

Are you talking about compliments from other women or from men? I can't speak for women's motivation, but with men it's simple. We compliment your appearance because this is a primary thing men are interested in/paying attention to. In reality, you could be exceptionally competent or unusually kind, or whatever, but these are not the things men pay attention to in women (in general; exceptions exist, of course, but they are exactly that, exceptions)

And that's exactly why women don't want to hear those kinds of compliments from men they don't know.

I believe it to be more flattering if one complaints on the charector not looks, looks are just an added bonus we want but in time fads a persons character will only Chang in action.

we know that women would always love to be complimented about their appearances though. What else do you want to compliments, perhaps you want to tell that they are doing an excellent job at their work or tasks. I don't think that carries any weight.

Maybe that. It's hard to compliment one that you don't know that well yet, but once you get to know them, a simple "I'm so glad you exist" or "the world is such a better place with you in it" makes one feel special for sure :))

True. In this case though the status of the relationship you have with that person has to be taken into consideration, I guess. It may be accepted with a grin face, but it would be wierd to meet a total stranger and tell them " I am glad you exist, or the world would be a better place with you in it. Unless you are trying to hit on the person 😂😅

I do not always love to be complimented on my appearance. Some random dude saying "you're hot" means absolutely nothing to me. I'd rather be told I'm funny, or smart, or even something as simple as "I like your style". The only person I care to hear compliments about looks from is my guy if I have one and other women

Agreed, that's why I said it would depend on the status of the relationship you have with that person.

Yeah compliments that show how well they know you, how they appreciate you and esp.for something you actually have control over -those mean so much more.

Ugh, no, I hate most compliments on my appearance esp online because it's just some stranger commenting on my photo without expressing any interest in me as a person. And it's usually over the top and phony cause they just want a hookup. I don't know why men think women like those kinds of compliments..from a lover, sure, but not a stranger.

Working in construction getting complimented by men about my strength will always mean more than a female complimenting on my outfit/beauty. Most people want to be appreciated for their qualities not looks.
