Why is dinner a date activity?

Eating in front of someone can be gross and embarrassing. Why do we still do it? Is it intentionally to see how gross your date is?

A dinner date gives some introvert an excuse to think before they speak. When you have food in your mouth, you are allowed to delay your answer without being rude.

We don't question these things. 😂 It became a popular courting tradition somewhere along the way, probably inspired by western european ideals of romance and high-society, and now we are just raised to accept it as normal.

I do coffee dates as a first date. No commitment to hours of my time or anything more. If it goes well it could lead to a dinner date.

I don’t have a lot of time for date activities. But I do have to eat everyday. Schedule something in between my work hours where we can eat? Perfect.

Good point. I always assumed it's a tradition thing. Maybe the next date I make plans for will just be a fun thing like mini golf.

I had them a few times they’re overrated but if someone’s critical of you at dinner it’s a good sign to not have a second date. I would rather do anything else than go to dinner for a date.

Time saver, plus bonding instinct. Humans are both social and pack animals. Eating together provides a social time and involves literally watching each other's blind spots.
